![]() Using a Leupold MK4 4.5-14x50 at 50 yards.10clicks of elevation put me at the same POI as the 175gr FGMM. And in the UK is nowhere near the legal energy. Therefore, the energy of the subsonic 308 is only about 4 ½ times the energy of a 22 rimfire, with surprises many people. ![]() Just haven't gotten back to the range with it yet. So, to give a good example of the energy of a subsonic 308 we need only consider that the weight of a 22 rimfire bullet is 40 grains and where shooting a bullet of 190 grains. The powder dropper has a hard time with the fluffy TrailBoss powder. so that may have had something to do with it also. They were loaded a little shorter 2.725". Have been pretty successful out to 300yds with 22LR subsonic so a high BC bullet should extend this range. I shoot GC loads out of moderate loads for vols from 1500-1800 with 2400 and. The Benchmark barrel has a tight 1:8.5 twist, much faster than a typical 308 Winchester barrel, set in a BAT Igniter action and Foundation Dominion stock. It’s also become one of my favorite rifles. I shoot 50 yd cast pbs out of 308 with small charges of bullseye/unique/Tight Group etc. Our 308 Shorty build seemed ideal for use with heavy bullet subsonic ammunition. A safe powder for beginner loaders as it is impossible (I think) to double charge any recommended load. After some my research I would say greater than 100yds. Makes for decent off hand 25 and 50 yd tin can and clay loads in rifles. I do recommend Trail Boss for a powder.I took my 700AAC/SD to the range a week ago to test a few subsonic handloads I was working on.Ĩ.0gr of Titegroup gave me: 935, 903, 920, 932fps. Like to hear anyone's tips and tricks on creating Long Range Subsonic loads. do not exclude HPBT bullets just because some said not to. Everyone's opinion on the net is different. Test different bullets to see what the gun likes. The speed of sound is 1128 fps at sea level, so you want to be under that enough to account for elevation change. Start off high on your powder charge and work your way back. The key is to use a heavier bullet and less powder. I was able to fine tune this round to under 1" MOA, which surprised me after slowing a bullet down that much. Instantly, there was a huge difference in accuracy. I loaded the same round but using a 175 gr. It was far from accurate and you never knew where the POI was going to be. I tested this for a couple months and was not able to get the Hornady 180 gr. After one year I scaled down to a 16-inch barrel and then a 16-inch 7.62x39 mm a year. A few years ago I was hunting with an 18-inch-barreled. I think when the bullet gets out past maybe 200 yards depending on the twist of the rifling the bullet can tumble. I loaded several loads with this set up, starting around 12 gr. Heck, I am living proof of this in action. Everything I read lead me to believe that Trail Boss was the "go to" powder for subs and that you want to use a 180 gr. When I started developing a subsonic load for my TRG-22, I researched and tested several bullets. ![]() This is something that you will just have to test extensively. ![]()
